Betty ball: Textile Artist and Tutor
As a mathematician I see shape and pattern everywhere which influences my textile work. A blank canvas can be scary so I love the support of rules but then like breaking them. Designing is not easy for me and I struggle to be really free or abstract. Exhibiting with New Horizons has pushed me to work at this and take on different themes.
I enjoy challenging piecing and dyeing my own fabrics. Italian Cosmati floors and optical illusions fascinate me. I will even hand sew over papers when a design requires it.
